WNO-DC Schools Partnership Program
DC Public and Charter Elementary Schools
The Washington National Opera and DC Schools Partnership offers students and teachers a unique opportunity to explore how opera reflects its time, culture, and creators. Beginning with in-class preparation with WNO Teaching Artists and continuing with attendance at the Opera Look-In, students reflect on opera and how it connects to their school, community, nation, and world.
The partnership continues throughout the school year. Teachers and students work with WNO Teaching Artists to help develop a work of art—a song, story, dance, or visual art piece—that connects the opera to the language arts, social studies, and music curriculums. At the conclusion of the Partnership year, students and teachers present their works of art to their peers and school community, and leave the Partnership enriched in ways that extend far beyond the walls of their classroom.
