Opera: The Most Perfect Art Form
The sounds of opera are literally everywhere. Movie soundtracks, radio ads, and TV commercials frequently use arias, overtures, and other operatic music. You may recognize the strains of "Nessun dorma" from that car ad, but cannot name the work it came from. While the music is, of course, critical, it is only part of the excitement. Opera is by nature a full sensory experience that is meant to entertain, educate, and excite. A fusion between music, literature, dance, and the fine arts, opera arguably is the most perfect art form.
As the official "National Opera" of the United States, Washington National Opera is dedicated to broadening public awareness and understanding of opera. The company reaches a wide-ranging audience not only in the Washington, D.C. metro community but also the nation and abroad through its Center for Education and Training and other Opera Outreach initiatives, including Generation O, a program for young patrons between the ages of 18 and 35.
