Education and Community Programs | Domingo - Cafritz Young Artist Program Plácido Domingo Intern/Apprentice Program
The mission of the Center is to align these programs to create comprehensive
training for children, teens, and young adults in opera
performance; to provide training for opera professionals
in all capacities—from artistic administration
and public relations to lighting and costumes; and to
use outreach opportunities to bring children, teens,
young adults, adults, and seniors into the Washington
National Opera family.
With an eye to national outreach, Plácido Domingo
stated, "The Washington National Opera Center for
Education and Training will be our legacy for future
generations. Here we will prepare extraordinary young
singers for their careers as the stars of tomorrow,
and what's more—the coach-accompanists, the conductors,
the directors, the opera production staff, and the administrators—all
the people that make great opera happen. We are reaching
out to new audiences with our programs as well, to little
children, teenagers, young professionals, and the military.
The arts—especially opera—give something
special to us as human beings. To hear great music and
to be 'moved by the concord of sweet sounds' as Shakespeare
said, touches our souls and enriches our lives. This
is what America needs, an introduction and access to
great art, and we at Washington National Opera are its
ambassadors."
Whether you have never been exposed to opera or are
already an aficionado, we have a program to deepen your
knowledge and commitment to this magnificent art form!
