Family Look-In: Don Giovanni
For the fourth consecutive year, Washington National Opera presents its ever popular Opera Look-In to the wider community with a special weekend performance. A wonderful opportunity for parents and families to introduce their children to the magical world of opera, this season the Family Look-In gives children and their families a behind-the-scenes look into Don Giovanni, conducted by General Director Plácido Domingo and hosted by ABC 7’s Maureen Bunyan. This 50-minute performance includes demonstrations by members of the Washington National Opera Orchestra and production staff. Audience members will have the opportunity to experience lively excerpts from Don Giovanni with full staging, costumes, and orchestra.
Preparatory materials are provided, including a WNO Commentary on CD and study guide.
Date: Saturday, November 10, 2007, at 3:00 p.m.
Location: Kennedy Center Opera House
Tickets: $10 for youth ages 15 and under; $15 or $35 for adults. Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, September 12.

Library Program
In partnership with over 50 libraries in the Washington metro area, Washington National Opera presents free opera workshops for children and their families. Led by WNO Teaching Artists and Docents, families are introduced to the story and music of Hansel and Gretel, and explore how music communicates plot, character, and emotion through engaging musical activities and creative hands-on crafts. This program is ideal for children ages 4-10 and their families.

Girl Scout Participation Patch Program: The Art
of Opera
Brownies (ages 7 and up) and Junior Girl Scouts explore and learn about the exciting world of opera by earning the Art of Opera Patch. Troops earn their patch by completing hands-on activities that focus on different aspects of and careers within an opera company. Learn about costume and set design, writing a libretto for an opera, and singing technique. All activities can be completed at the Washington National Opera Studio or anywhere in the world! This program is available to troops of all ages, interests, and experiences, and helps fulfill a variety of different Try-It and Badge requirements.
Troops that would like to participate in a Saturday morning program at the Washington National Opera Studio must register for the program at least three weeks in advance. Saturday programs include a docent led Costume Studio tour, Art of Opera Patch activities, and a nutritious snack.
