Education & Community Programs - Community Outreach

Using opera as the greatest multi-dimensional art form, the mission of WNO's Education and Community Programs is to be a resource for families in the surrounding communities, to help prepare their children for the creativity required of the 21st century economy, and to develop future practitioners of the art form.

Geared towards children, adults and families, Washington National Opera's Community programs have something for everyone.

Library Program

Children ages 4-10 and their families

In partnership with over 50 libraries in the Washington metro area, Washington National Opera presents free opera workshops for children and their families.  Led by WNO Teaching Artists and Education Ambassadors, families are introduced to the story and music of an opera and explore how music communicates plot, character, and emotion through engaging musical activities and creative hands-on crafts.

Fee:  FREE

Registration: Please contact your local library for program registration information.

“The work done by the Education and Community Programs with the Washington National Opera is critical to the enrichment of youth as well as the future of opera.”– Library Program Participant
